Technology as an ally against blackouts: a reflection from Entelgy

The recent collapse of the electrical system has underscored the urgent need to modernize critical infrastructure. Fernando Naranjo, Chief Operating Officer at Entelgy, discussed on RTVE the importance of anticipating these types of crises through technologies such as Process Mining.

During his appearance on the Zoom Net program from Spanish public broadcaster RTVE, Fernando Naranjo emphasized a key message: “The right technology could have prevented the incident and, if unavoidable, would have enabled a much faster system recovery.” At Entelgy, this approach is not new. For years, we have been committed to real-time monitoring and automation solutions that help prevent disruptions in critical infrastructure, including energy systems.

One of the cornerstones of this strategy is Process Mining—a technology that allows us to observe the behavior of complex systems, analyze live metrics, and optimize workload management. With this capability, anomalies can be detected early, and automated decisions can be made to balance and stabilize the network. As Naranjo concludes, “These kinds of incidents should serve as a catalyst for accelerating technological modernization and increasing visibility into the processes that ensure the operational continuity of our essential systems.
